About

The 1987 Sacramento Bicycle Commuter Guide mapBreak Time Bicycle Co. is a small, veteran-owned shop in East Sacramento that sells cycling accessories, parts and apparel. No complete bikes. Just the stuff that makes the bike you already have work better.

The inspiration

When our founder, Joe Niehaus, was a kid, there was a bicycle accessories shop in Sacramento called The Rest Stop. No bikes, just parts, gear and people who knew what they were talking about. It closed a while back and nothing really replaced it. Break Time is our attempt to bring that kind of shop back: online first, with a storefront when the numbers say it is time. No affiliation with the original, just admiration.

How we pick what we sell

Everything in the catalog is something we would put on our own bikes or hand to a friend. Wolf Tooth, KOM, Outer Shell, ESI: brands that make good parts and stand behind them. If the cheaper option is the better one for you, we will say so. If you are not sure which size or which version you need, send a message before you order.

Who is behind it

Joe Niehaus. Navy veteran, East Sac resident, road and gravel rider, occasional cruiser-with-a-basket rider, get kids to school on the e-bike rider. We run the shop from home, so orders ship direct from our suppliers to your door anywhere in the US.

The map

The map at the top is the 1987 Sacramento Bicycle Commuter Guide. Same river, same grid, a lot of the same routes people still ride today. Rooted here, shipping everywhere.
