Cold fingers end more winter rides than cold anything else. We carry five winter gloves from Showers Pass and Handup, and the makers rate each one for a temperature range. Start with the coldest morning you actually ride in, then pick by how wet it gets.
The short answer
- Below freezing: Handup ColdEST, $58.
- Cold and wet: Cross Point Pro Wool, $59, or Handup ColdER Plus, $39.
- Rainy but mild: Cross Point Sport, $54.
- Cool and dry: Handup Cold Weather, $34.
Handup ColdEST, $58: 26 to 38°F
The warmest-rated glove we carry. Waterproof membrane plus synthetic insulation and a silk lining. Handup rates its insulation Maximum and its dexterity Bulky, so expect warmth over feel.
Cross Point Pro Wool, $59: 30 to 50°F
Showers Pass's waterproof knit glove with a merino wool liner. Waterproof membrane inside a knit exterior with sock-like stretch. The pick for cold, wet mornings when you still want to feel the brake levers.
Handup ColdER Plus, $39: 32 to 44°F
Mid-weight, with a dual fleece lining. Handup rates it waterproof on the top and the palm. The lower-priced option for cold, wet rides.
Handup Cold Weather, $34: 38 to 50°F
A fleece-lined top with a single-layer palm, for cool, dry mornings. Water resistant, not waterproof: Handup's own chart rates it 50%, against 100% for the ColdER Plus and ColdEST. Prints: Lucid Topo and Sunrise Ridge Rider.
Cross Point Sport, $54: 40 to 65°F
The same waterproof knit build as the Pro Wool, with a CoolMax FX wicking liner instead of wool, for rain that isn't cold. Rated 7,000 mm waterproof and 10,000 g/m² breathable, with silicone grip on the palm and fingers and touchscreen fingertips on the index finger and thumb.
Our take, Joe: My hand is 7.5 inches long and just over 8 inches around the knuckles, which puts me in a Medium on Showers Pass's chart. I usually wear a Cadet Large golf glove, so I went up a size, and the Large is a bit roomy. I wear mine in Neon Green on my morning e-bike ride dropping my girls at school. They feel good on the bar, the touchscreen fingertips work, and the bright green makes my hand signals easy to see.

Sizing
The two brands size differently, so use the right chart: Showers Pass Cross Point gloves and Handup gloves. On a Cross Point glove, Showers Pass recommends sizing up if you are between sizes. On a Handup glove, Handup says the gloves stretch, so between sizes take the smaller one. Not sure? Email us before you order, and returns are free for 30 days.
